Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events at MiraCosta

 

Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)? First observed in October 1981 as a national “Day of Unity,” DVAM is a way to unite efforts to end domestic violence/ intimate partner violence through education and advocacy.

Below are some of the DVAM events at MiraCosta College:
  • October 10th, 1-2 pm, Oceanside Barnard Campus food distribution: Bae Goals. Come enjoy some bagels as you learn more about healthy relationships!
  • October 18th, 8-9 am, San Elijo Campus Student Center: Bae Goals. Come enjoy some bagels as you learn more about healthy relationships!
  • October 18h, 1-2 pm, Community Learning Center food distribution: Bae Goals. Come enjoy some bagels as you learn more about healthy relationships!
  • October 25th, 4:30-6:30 pm, One Love Bystander Awareness Training & Healthy Relationships Support & Resources, Oceanside Campus & Online (see below to register)
  • October 30th, 5:30-7 pm, Knowledge is Power: An Event in Recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Facilitated in collaboration with UPRISE by Nidya Ramirez Ibarra, Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Join us for this event and:
    • Listen to a past student’s story of strength and empowerment
    • Learn what to include in an emotional safety plan
    • Practice a coping skill guided by licensed mental health counselor
    • Gain information about local domestic violence related resources, including those specific to immigrants and mixed status individuals
