To meet the mental health counseling needs of our students, MiraCosta College Student Health Services is bringing on an additional part-time Associate Faculty (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) in Spring 2023. 

Essential duties are providing confidential, culturally relevant, and equity-oriented individual, relationship, and family counseling; facilitating support groups and workshops; supporting overall campus mental health needs including crisis intervention, drop-in support, and clinical back up of pre-licensed counselors; and serving as a liaison between Health Services and other campus departments/ programs.

Minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Social Work, or a related field, as well as Licensure in California as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage & Family Therapist, Professional Clinical Counselor, or Psychologist. Bilingual English-Spanish preferred, as is experience working with Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Associate Faculty positions are on a semester-by-semester basis for the Fall and Spring semesters.

The hours would be 18-23 per week, pay is hourly based on the MiraCosta Associate Faculty Non-Classroom Salary Schedule (see below), and a possible additional stipend may be available for/ towards the training of the new hire's choice. This counselor could be assigned to either the Oceanside or San Elijo campuses. There is flexibility in the schedule, but in Spring 2023 coverage is especially needed on Tuesdays starting at 8 am at the Oceanside campus and on Thursdays 9 am -3 pm at the San Elijo campus. The position is open to current employees who qualify and external candidates.

The Mental Health Counseling Team at MiraCosta College Student Health Services is comprised of a diverse group of professionals and includes Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, and pre-licensed counselors and associates. Our team has been trained to look at the world from a systemic, humanistic, social justice, and equity-minded perspective. We therefore consider the impact of social injustices and systemic inequities on individuals, including acknowledging and examining systems, policies, and practices of oppression that students have experienced.

Additional salary information: Initial step placement is on step 1 of the non-classroom schedule (linked), with Associate Faculty advancing one step every two years. Initial class placement is based on education (e.g., a Master’s degree with 60 units is class IV, a Master’s with 72 units is class V, Doctorate is class VI.)
